Warriors Shutout Sabres, Clinch NACC Tournament Berth

MILWAUKEE (WLCSports.com) – The Wisconsin Lutheran College men's soccer team defeated the visiting Marian Sabres 3-0 on Senior Night Wednesday at Warriors Soccer Field. The Warriors sent out their eight seniors in winning fashion, clinching their third NACC Tournament berth in the last four years and tying their most conference wins since 2012 with two NACC contests remaining.

  • The Warriors started out the contest controlling possession, but were unable to find the back of the net. WLC out-shot Marian 11-5 in the first half, registering four shots on goal.
  • Connor Schodorf (Appleton, Wis.) put the Warriors on the scoreboard in the 49' after KJ McNealey Jr. (Milwaukee, Wis.) had a shot deflected, then Schodorf gathered the rebound and fired the ball into the bottom left corner of the net, putting the hosts up 1-0.
  • Jason Cano (Delavan, Wis.) scored his team-leading 14th goal of the season in the 57' after McNealey made a run down the right side of the field and crossed the ball to Cano in the box, who beat the keeper to the right side.
  • The Warriors dominated possession in the second half, controlling the ball in the Marian half for a majority of the 45 minutes and added a third goal in the 85' when Juan Serna (Milwaukee, Wis.) stole the ball and placed a left-footed shot to the bottom left corner of the goal.
  • WLC honored its eight seniors, Schodorf, Serna, Cedric Guichard (Plantation, Fla.), Ian Starkey (Mt. Morris, Ill.), Yussef Sahraoui (South Milwaukee, Wis.), Victor Ramirez (Milwaukee, Wis.), Kenneth Sutton (New Berlin, Wis.), and Adalberto Garcia (Milwaukee, Wis.) at halftime. 

  • Cano led the Warriors with seven shots, including four on target and one goal. Cano is now second in the NACC with 14 scores and third in the NACC with 32 points on the season.
  • Serna and Schodorf added goals, while McNealey tallied his fourth assist of the season for the hosts.
  • Guichard earned his sixth win of the year in goal, making five saves while keeping a clean sheet.
  • The Warriors clinched their third NACC Tournament berth in the last four years.
  • The six NACC wins are tied for the most since the 2012 season.
  • The win marked the third straight for WLC, matching the longest winning streak from a season ago.

  • Cade Klusendorf paced Marian with five shots, including three on goal.
  • Ian Chacon suffered the loss in goal, making seven saves in the contest.
