Men's Soccer Scores Comeback Win Over Cougars

MILWAUKEE (WLCSports.com) – The Wisconsin Lutheran College men's soccer team scored a pair of goals in the final 12 minutes of regulation to secure a 2-1 comeback victory over Concordia Chicago Saturday afternoon at Warriors Soccer Field. Juan Serna (Milwaukee, Wis.) and Jason Cano (Delavan, Wis.) each found the back of the net in the come-from-behind NACC victory.

  • The Warriors had a pair of scoring chances in the 4' and 14', pbut CUC's Zachary Adamec made two saves to keep the game scoreless.
  • The Cougars' first shot on target in the contest resulted in the first goal of the match as Gerardo Medina capitalized on a breakaway in the 30' minute.
  • Medina's goal was the only score in the opening half as CUC held a 1-0 advantage at the break, despite WLC holding a 6-5 edge in shots.
  • Concordia Chicago looked to add an insurance goal in the 74' minute after a foul inside the box which resulted in a penalty kick, but the Cougars missed the attempt wide left.
  • Serna evened the score for the Warriors in the 78' after Noah Hernandez's (Glendale, Wis.) shot was rebounded and tapped in for his seventh goal of the year.
  • Cano beat several Cougars defenders and finished with his left foot to give WLC a 2-1 lead in the 86' minute.
  • CUC never threatened again and the Warriors hung on for the one-goal triumph.

  • Cano paced the Warriors' attack with five shots, including two on goal, and his 12th goal of the season. 
  • Hernandez tallied the lone assist in the contest.
  • Wisconsin Lutheran out-shot CUC 17-9 in the contest, including 11-4 in the second half.
  • Guichard faced nine shots and made four saves en route to his fourth win of the season.
  • The Warriors won their seventh straight game over the Cougars.

  • Medina and Peter Munro each tallied a pair of shots for the Cougars.

  • Jose Retana suffered the loss in the contest, allowing two goals while making four saves in the second half.
