Serna's Game-Winner Lifts Warriors Over Scarlet Hawks

CHICAGO, Ill. ( – The Wisconsin Lutheran College men's soccer team defeated the Illinois Tech Scarlet Hawks Saturday afternoon in NACC play after Juan Serna (Milwaukee, Wis.) delivered a game-winning goal in the 87th minute. Three different Warriors registered goals in the victory while Cedric Guichard (Plantation, Fla.) made a season-high 10 saves in net.

  • The Warriors struck first in the 19' when Kenneth Sutton (New Berlin, Wis.) put a shot on goal that was saved, but KJ McNealey Jr. (Milwaukee, Wis.) picked up the rebound and fired the ball into the back of the net, giving WLC the 1-0 advantage.
  • Jason Cano (Delavan, Wis.) scored his NACC-leading 11th goal of the season in the 27' after beating the Scarlet Hawk defense and finding the back of the net.
  • The hosts scored eight minutes after halftime as Luke Holzman brought IIT within one goal, then Peter Fouchet tied the contest at 2-2 in the 65' when he received a pass off of a corner kick from Quentin Dreillich and beat the keeper.
  • Illinois Tech threatened twice in just over a minute with a header and a shot from just outside the box, but Guichard stood strong in goal and kept the contest tied at 2-2.
  • Serna delivered the game-winner in the 87' when he took a pass from Yussef Sahraoui (South Miwaukee, Wis.) and scored, propelling the Warriors to the 3-2 triumph.
