Cano's Hat Trick Leads Warriors To 2-0 NACC Start

LOVES PARK, Ill. ( – Powered by a hat trick from Jason Cano (Delavan, Wis.) and a goal and an assist from KJ McNealey Jr. (Milwaukee, Wis.), the Wisconsin Lutheran College men's soccer team defeated the Rockford Regents 4-3 Saturday afternoon at Wedgbury Stadium. With the win, the Warriors improve to 2-0-0 in the NACC for the first time since 2007.

  • McNealey Jr. put the visitors on the board in the 13' when he placed a ball in the top right corner from just outside the box to give the Warriors a 1-0 lead.
  • Cano pushed the Warriors' lead to two goals in the 36' when he beat the goalie to the bottom right corner.
  • Rockford answered just 38 seconds after halftime with a goal of its own to cut the Wisconsin Lutheran lead in half.
  • Cano and McNealey Jr. combined to give the Warriors another two-goal lead in the 57' when McNealey Jr. slid a pass through the Rockford defense that Cano gathered at the back post and put in the back of the net, pushing the WLC lead to 3-1.
  • The Regents cut the WLC lead to 3-2 at the 58:04 mark when Jari Leussink converted a free kick then tied the contest at 3-3 in the 69' when Carlos Montes took a cross in the box and found the back of the net.
  • Cano completed his hat trick and provided the game winner for WLC in the 86' when he beat the defense solo and tapped the ball in from two yards out, giving the Warriors the 4-3 victory.

  • Cano led the Warriors with four shots, three shots on goal and three goals. He has now scored eight goals in seven games for the Green & White, leading the NACC in that category.
  • McNealey Jr. added a goal and an assist with three shots on frame for WLC.
  • Aedon Meurer (Waukesha, Wis.) added a shot on goal for the visitors.
  • Cedric Guichard (Plantation, Fla.) earned his second win in goal, making seven saves.
  • Wisconsin Lutheran started conference play 2-0-0 in the NACC for the first time since 2007.

  • Three different Regents tallied goals while Montes led RU with five shots.
  • Brandon Oeltjenbruns dished out two assists for the Regents.
  • Edgar Gomez suffered the loss in net, allowing two goals in the second half.
  • RU led WLC in shots, 17-11.
