Men's Soccer Suffers Season-Opening Defeat Against Platteville

VERONA, Wis. - UW-Platteville scored two of its three goals in the first 13 minutes of play to defeat the Wisconsin Lutheran College men's soccer team 3-1 Friday afternoon in the season opener for both teams at Reddan Soccer Park.

The Pioneers' Brad Streich (8') and Alex Bach (13') netted goals within five minutes of each other to give the hosts a 2-0 lead. The score stood 2-0 until the 44th minute when the Warriors' Austin Drake (East Troy, Wis./East Troy) cut the deficit in half off an assist from Roman Nino (Lake Worth, Fla./Santaluces). WLC trailed 2-1 at intermission after being out-shot 9-3 in the opening period.

The Warriors out-shot UWP 7-3 in the second half, but were unable to find the back of the net. Platteville added an insurance score in the 88th minute from Sadek Sanon assisted by Mbodje Sarr for the final tally of the game.

Drake collected a match-high five of Wisconsin Lutheran's 10 shot attempts for the match. Cedric Guichard (Plantation, Fla./American Heritage) made five saves in his collegiate debut.

Four of the Pioneers' (1-0-0) 12 shots for the match came from Streich. Scott Sibik preserved the win with four saves.

Wisconsin Lutheran (0-1-0) hosts Martin Luther (0-0-0) for its home opener Sunday at 2 p.m. at Warrior Soccer Field.
