AURORA, Ill. - Aurora's Jason O'Brien scored a pair of goals and added an assist as the Spartans defeated the Wisconsin Lutheran College men's soccer team 6-1 Sunday at Vago Field.
O'Brien netted an unassisted goal in the fourth minute to give the Spartans (11-5-3, 6-2-2 NACC) an early advantage. Alex Brunell also added an unassisted goal in the 32nd minute as Aurora carried a 2-0 lead into the intermission.
AU outshot the Warriors (7-7-3, 4-4-1 NACC) 10-6 in the first half. WLC goalkeeper Jon Stewart (Waukesha, Wis./South) made three saves in the half.
Steven Soderstrom assisted on goals by O'Brien and Nick Cataldi in the 47th and 58th minutes, respectively, to put the WLC deficit at 4-0.
Austin Drake (East Troy, Wis./East Troy) found the back of the net off a Nate Wasser (Lake Geneva, Wis./Shoreland Lutheran) pass - his seventh goal of the season - to get the Warriors on the board in the 64th minute.
Jon Rosenbaum answered with a goal off of O'Brien's assist two minutes later and Alex Stein struck in the 79th minute for the Spartans final tally.
WLC was outshot 21-14 in the game. Stewart added three more saves in the second half. Drake led the Warriors attack with five shots, three of them on on goal.
Spartans keeper Chris Donner made four saves, while O'Brien led the team with four shots.
WLC (7-7-3, 4-4-1 NACC) will play its regular season finale Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. at Lakeland (8-8-1, 3-6-0 NACC).
