Wasser's Hat Trick Leads Warriors Past Eureka

MILWAUKEE - Sophomore Nate Wasser (Lake Geneva, Wis./Shoreland Lutheran) netted three goals and an assist to propel the Wisconsin Lutheran College men's soccer team to an 8-1 win over Eureka Sunday at Warrior Field. WLC improved to 3-2-3 on the season and Eureka dropped to 0-6-0.

WLC got on the board early when Teffie Joyce (Green Bay, Wis./Fox Valley Lutheran) put home a shot from the middle of the goal box in the fifth minute for his first goal of the season. Austin Drake (East Troy, Wis./East Troy) recorded the first of his three assists, tying the Warriors all-time record for assists in a game.

Wasser scored his first goal of the game in his 23rd minute on assists by Matt Bishop (Sarasota, Fla./Sarasota) and Joyce. The Red Devils answered less than three minutes later on a breakaway goal by Mark Meyer to cut the Warriors lead to 2-1.

Less than two minutes after that, Josh Higginson (Lyons, Wis./Burlington) scored off of a corner kick, with Drake on the assist. Wasser closed the first-half scoring when he finished off a set piece, once again assisted by Drake to give WLC a 4-1 lead at halftime.

Roles were reversed just over two minutes into the second half when Drake scored on Wasser's assist for his third goal of the season. Wasser capped off his hat trick in the 53rd minute from inside the goal box on an assist from Taylor Hershoff (New Berlin, Wis./Eisenhower). Wasser increased his team-leading goal total to six.

Bishop scored his first goal of the season in the 76th minute, assisted by Isaac Kolterjahn (Sturgeon Bay, Wis./Sturgeon Bay). Enrique Arreola (Anna, Ill./Anna-Jonesboro) finished the scoring in the 82nd minute off of an assist from Trey Hendricks (Fort Atkinson, Wis./Fort Atkinson).

The Warriors out-shot the Red Devils 39-3, led by Drake's 10 shots. David Flores made nine saves for Eureka and Warriors goalkeeper Jon Stewart (Waukesha, Wis./South) made one save.

WLC (3-2-3) will host a non-conference game against Maranatha (3-3-0) Thursday night at 7 p.m.
