NEW ULM, Minn. - Sophomore Nate Wasser (Lake Geneva, Wis./Shoreland Lutheran) scored a pair of goals to lead the Wisconsin Lutheran College men's soccer team to a 5-0 win over Martin Luther Sunday afternoon. WLC improved to 2-2-2 while the Knights dropped to 1-4-0.
Wasser's first goal came in the 26th minute off an assist from junior Josh Higginson (Lyons, Wis./Burlington). WLC held a 1-0 lead at halftime after an offensive first half from both sides. The Warriors were out-shot 13-12 in the half as senior goalkeeper Jon Stewart (Waukesha, Wis./South) made seven saves.
The Warriors dominated play in the second half. Sophomore Austin Drake (East Troy, Wis./East Troy) got it started in the 51st minute when he found the back of the net for the second time this season, assisted by fellow sophomore Teffie Joyce (Green Bay, Wis./Fox Valley Lutheran).
Just over three minutes later, junior Jake Semmann (Grafton, Wis./Kettle Moraine Lutheran) made it 3-0 on his first goal of the year. Junior Brad Mallmann (Plymouth, Wis./Plymouth) was credited with his team-leading second assist.
Junior Mavric Otterstatter (Fond du Lac, Wis./Winnebago Lutheran) struck for his second goal of the season in the 68th minute. Five minutes later, Wasser netted his second goal of the game and third of the season.
WLC out-shot Martin Luther 14-5 in the second half and 26-18 for the game. Drake led the Warriors with six shots. Ryan Lemke took four shots for the Knights.
Stewart finished with 10 saves for the Warriors and Eric Hahn made eight saves for Martin Luther.
Wisconsin Lutheran is off until next Saturday when it opens Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference play with a home game against Benedictine (1-3-0) at 1 p.m.
