Warriors Score Three Early Goals In Shutout Victory

MILWAUKEE - The Wisconsin Lutheran College men's soccer team scored three goals in the first 15 minutes on its way to a 4-0 win over Ripon Sunday at Warrior Field. The Warriors improved to 1-0-1 on the season while Ripon fell to 0-2-0.

In the fifth minute, junior defender Mavric Otterstatter (Fond du Lac, Wis./Winnebago Lutheran) converted on the Warriors first penalty kick of the season. He knocked his shot into the lower right corner to put WLC in front 1-0.

It took just over five minutes for the Warriors to strike again. Sophomore midfielder Austin Drake (East Troy, Wis./East Troy) made a long run down the right side of the field, pulled the ball toward the middle of the penalty box and finished with a blast into the right corner of the net to make it 2-0.

The Warriors used great teamwork to net a third goal in the 15th minute. Junior midfielder Brad Mallmann (Plymouth, Wis./Plymouth) scored from the middle of the box on assists from sophomore Matt Bishop (Sarasota, Fla./Sarasota) and junior Taylor Hershoff (New Berlin, Wis./Eisenhower).

An own goal in the 86th minute was the final tally for Wisconsin Lutheran. 

Senior goalkeeper Jon Stewart (Waukesha, Wis./South) made six saves as the Warriors out-shot the Red Hawks 25-12. Drake and Mallmann each took five shots to lead the Warriors and Spencer Reisbick took four shots for Ripon.

Wisconsin Lutheran (1-0-1) will now play four straight road games, starting Tuesday when it travels to Beloit (0-0-0) for a 6 p.m. contest.
