WLC Jumps Seven Spots On Final Day At Midwest Region Classic

GALENA, Ill. (WLCSports.com) - The Wisconsin Lutheran College men's golf team improved its score by 19 shots and jumped seven spots in the final team rankings to tie for 11th out of 36 teams Friday and Saturday at the Midwest Region Classic at Eagle Ridge Resort. The Warriors finished with a two-round 635 after posting rounds of 327 and 308, tying for the fifth-lowest score of the final round.

  • Sophomore Joey Ploch (Oconomowoc, Wis.) carded a two-round 157 (84-73) to lead the Warriors at the tournament. Ploch posted a final round 73 (+1) as only six players in the field fired a better final round score.
  • Junior Johnny Kositzky Jr. (Escanaba, Mich.) lowered his total by 10 strokes on the second day as he finished with a 158 (84-74) and tied for 55th.
  • Sophomore James Michaelson (Crystal Lake, Ill.) turned in rounds of 79 and 80 for a 159 and a 60th-place tie.
  • Junior Quinn Schultz (Chaseburg, Wis.) totaled a 162 (80-82) to round out the team scoring for the Warriors.
  • Sophomores Grant Hammer (Germantown Hills, Ill.) and Mason Herkstroeter (Fond du Lac, Wis.) posted two-day totals of 174 (93-81) and 181 (94-87), respectively.

  • Fellow NACC member Aurora topped the 36-team field with a two-day 591 (297-294) to finish seven shots ahead of runner-up Edgewood. Dawson Hinz of Edgewood earned medalist honors after his two-round 144 (73-71).

  • The Warriors are back on the links Monday for the Judson Fall Invitational at Randall Oaks Golf Club in West Dundee, Illinois. Tee time is scheduled for 10:30 a.m.
