WAUKESHA, Wis. - Junior Pete Kaufmann (Davenport, Iowa/Central) carded a one-over 73 to claim medalist honors at the Wisconsin Lutheran College Spring Invitational Saturday at Morningstar Golfers Club. The Warriors finished fifth out of 13 teams with a 310 at the one-day event.
Kaufmann topped the 74-player field after he carded a 34 on the front nine and 39 on the back. He finished his round with four birdie putts, tied for the most at the tournament.
Senior Danny Frawley (Muskego, Wis./Muskego) tied for 13th after firing a 77 (39-38). Juniors Sean Esenberg (Jackson, Wis./Kettle Moraine Lutheran) and Jacob Mortell (Eden Prairie, Minn./St. Croix Lutheran) each shot an 80 to tie for 27th. Senior Jake Gaudynski (New Berlin, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran) rounded out the Warriors' lineup with an 85. Sophomore Garrett Ralston (Machesney Park, Ill./Harlem) topped Wisconsin Lutheran's second squad with a 78 (39-39) to tie for 20th.
Benedictine had three players shoot 76 or lower as the Eagles took home the team crown with a 305. Only five strokes separated WLC from its NACC foe and a second straight invite title.
Wisconsin Lutheran will send its second team to the Forester Spring Invite tomorrow at White Deer Run Golf Club in Vernon Hills, Ill. First scheduled tee time is 11:20 a.m. WLC will prepare for the NACC Championship, which is scheduled for three rounds April 19-20 at Stonebridge Country Club in Aurora, Ill.
