Men's Basketball Blitzes MSOE, 83-61

MILWAUKEE (WLCSports.com) - The Wisconsin Lutheran College men's basketball team jumped out to a 12-0 lead and never looked back en route to an 83-61 NACC win over previously unbeaten MSOE Wednesday night inside Hotchkin Arena. Andrew Bruggink (Brookfield, Wis.) led four players in double figures with a game-high 23 points.

  • The Warriors raced out to a 12-0 lead three minutes into the game after connecting on their first four shot attempts. WLC didn't miss a shot until the 16:22 mark and held the Raiders to just two made field goals through the first 8:32 of the game.
  • Wisconsin Lutheran built its first 20-point lead of the game with 8:02 left in the opening half and led by as many as 24 (38-14) with just under four-and-a-half remaining. The Raiders came as close as 16 points when the first-half buzzer sounded as WLC carried a 40-24 lead into the break.
  • WLC shot 51.7 percent in the first half, including 55.6 percent from three-point range. MSOE was held to just 23.3 percent on seven made baskets. Bruggink led seven Warriors who reached the scoring column in the first half with 12 points.
  • Following four quick points from the Warriors to start the second half, the Raiders went on a 7-0 run to trim their deficit to just 13 points with 17:07 on the clock.
  • A 8-0 run by Wisconsin Lutheran extended its lead to 23 points at 56-33 with 11:40 to play in the second half. MSOE answered with six straight, but back-to-back triples from Bruggink and Alex VanCrete (Green Lake, Wis.) brought the lead back up to 23 points.
  • WLC's lead never dropped below 20 points over the final 10:03 and the Green and White led by a game-high 30 points after a pair of Collin Kennedy (Holmen, Wis.) free throws with 3:19 left. The hosts scored the final eight points of the game for the final 83-61 margin.

  • Bruggink led four players in double figures with a game-high 23 points, his third consecutive 20-plus point game.
  • Caleb Goldstein (Fond du Lac, Wis.) followed with 17 points and Kennedy and Matty Farner (Muskego, Wis.) added 13 and 11, respectively. Farner pulled down 10 rebounds and had four steals for his second double-double of the season.
  • The Warriors shot 51.7 percent (31-for-60) for the game, their second-highest output of the season. WLC was 8-for-15 from behind the arc for a season-best 53.3 percent.
  • The win was the Warriors' seventh in their last nine meetings with the Raiders, but just their second in the last 10 trips to the Kern Center.

  • Matthew Kirmse was the lone Raider to reach double figures with 15 points. He also pulled down nine rebounds.
  • MSOE was held to a season-low 36.1 percent (22-for-61) shooting.

  • The Warriors are back in action inside the Recreation Complex Saturday afternoon when they host Concordia Chicago at 2:00 p.m. The Cougars (2-4, 2-3 NACC) fell 95-92 to Lakeland Wednesday night. Live stats and video will be available at WLCSports.com.
