Warriors Cruise Past Knights, 87-58

MILWAUKEE (WLCSports.com) – The Wisconsin Lutheran College men's basketball team shot 60.4 percent from the field and held the visiting Martin Luther Knights to just 39.6 percent shooting en route to an 87-58 victory Tuesday night inside the Recreation Complex. All 20 players saw action in the game for the Warriors and 12 different players cracked the scoring column.

  • The Warriors opened the contest with a 10-6 advantage after eight straight points from Collin Kennedy (Holmen, Wis.), then extended their lead to 13-8 after a triple from Caleb Goldstein (Fond du Lac, Wis.) with 10:13 to play in the first half.
  • Matty Farner (Muskego, Wis.) and Kennedy scored back-to-back buckets to give WLC a 17-11 lead and Alex VanCrete (Green Lake, Wis.) knocked down a jumper to push the Wisconsin Lutheran lead to eight with six minutes remaining in the opening half.
  • Goldstein connected on his second triple in the first half to push the Warriors' lead to 24-11 with just under four minutes showing on the first half clock.
  • Another three-pointer from Goldstein followed by two free throws from Kennedy and a layup from Sam Kaufman (Spring Grove, Ill.) extended the WLC lead to 32-17 with just over a minute to play in the first half
  • The Warriors entered the halftime break with a 35-20 lead after Kaufman connected on a transition three to close out the half.
  • Wisconsin Lutheran used a 9-4 run, powered by four points from Andrew Bruggink (Brookfield, Wis.) and another three-pointer from Goldstein to open the second half, taking a 44-26 lead and forcing the Knights to call a timeout with 16:59 showing on the clock.
  • VanCrete buried a three from the left wing then Kennedy converted two more free throws to push the WLC lead to 25 with just under 14 minutes to play in the second half.
  • Mack Knueppel (Jackson, Wis.) and Bruggink connected on back-to-back triples, then Randy Johnson Jr. (Germantown, Wis.) scored a fast break layup to give Wisconsin Lutheran a 70-36 lead with seven minutes remaining in the contest.
  • Jon Bailey (Milwaukee, Wis.) came off the bench and scored four straight points for the Warriors, giving WLC a 79-51 lead under four minutes to play.
  • The Warriors closed out the contest with four points from Braden Beiermann (Lincoln, Neb.) and took home the 87-58 triumph.

  • Kennedy led the Warriors with 20 points and pulled down a game-high nine rebounds while Goldstein added 15 points on a perfect 4-for-4 shooting from beyond the arc.
  • Bruggink added nine points while Kaufman and VanCrete tallied eight apiece.
  • Wisconsin Lutheran shot a blistering 60.4 percent (32-of-53) from the floor and knocked down eight triples in the contest.
  • WLC out-rebounded the visitors 38-23 and got a season-high 33 points off the bench.

  • Jonathan Riebe led MLC with 11 points while Nate Lindloff added seven points.
  • Martin Luther shot 39.6 percent (21-of-53) from the floor and were held to 26.1 percent (6-of-23) shooting from deep.
