Warriors Fall To Phoenix In Exhibition Opener

GREEN BAY, Wis. (WLCSports.com) – The Wisconsin Lutheran College men's basketball team opened its 2018-2019 exhibition season with a 110-54 loss to NCAA Divison I opponent Green Bay Tuesday afternoon inside the Kress Center. The Warriors were led by seniors Collin Kennedy (Holmen, Wis.) and Sam Kaufman (Spring Grove, Ill.), who scored 12 points each.

  • The Phoenix scored nine straight points to open the contest, but Kennedy connected on a jumper to put the Warriors on the board.
  • Colin Biesterfeld (West Bend, Wis.) buried a triple from the top of the key to cut the Green Bay lead to eight, then Kennedy drew a charge on the ensuing possession.
  • The Phoenix used a 9-0 run to push their lead to 22-6 with 12 minutes remaining in the first half, forcing WLC to take their third timeout of the opening half.
  • Kaufman scored four straight points for WLC to cut the Phoenix lead to 12, but Green Bay was able to extend its advantage to 17 with just over eight minutes to play in the half.
  • GB closed out the half on a 30-7 run to take a 59-20 lead into the locker room at halftime.
  • The Phoenix forced 19 turnovers in the first half and converted those into 40 points.
  • Green Bay opened the second half on a 14-7 run, extending its lead to 73-27 at the first media timeout of the second half.
  • Kennedy connected on a triple from the left wing, but the Phoenix were able to push their lead to 82-34 with 11:17 left in the contest.
  • The Warriors scored eight straight points, powered by six straight points by Kaufman, but GB maintained a 91-46 advantage at the eight minute media timeout.
  • Green Bay closed out the contest on a 22-8 run to close out the contest, taking the 110-54 triumph.

  • Kennedy and Kaufman led WLC with 12 points apiece while four other Warriors added five points each.
  • Kennedy led the Warriors with seven rebounds while Paul Koier (Menomonee Falls, Wis.) pulled down five rebounds while adding four points.
  • The Warriors shot 32.8 percent (19-of-58) from the floor and connected on six triples.

  • Manny Patterson and TJ Parham paced the balanced Phoenix attack with 14 points each while Sandy Cohen III added 12 points and three steals.
  • The hosts shot an impressive 55 percent (42-of-76) from the floor and converted 71 percent (20-of-28) of their attempts from the charity stripe.
  • Green Bay forced 33 WLC turnovers in the contest and turned those into 55 points.
  • GB held a 48-36 advantage on the glass and dished out 23 assists.
