Six Reach Double-Figures In Senior Day Win Over Stars

MILWAUKEE – Jake Jarnigo (Lake Mills, Wis./Lakeside Lutheran) scored 17 points to lead six players in double-figures as the Wisconsin Lutheran College men's basketball team defeated Dominican 86-79 on Senior Day Saturday at the Recreation Complex. With the win, the Warriors clinched the fourth seed in the upcoming NACC Tournament and will host their first conference tournament game since 2008.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • After a close game early, WLC pulled out to an 18-11 lead with 11:12 remaining in the first half.
  • The game was tied at 25-25 before the Warriors led 33-27 at the 4:31 mark in the first.
  • The Warriors carried a 42-35 advantage into halftime. Dominican out-shot the Warriors 50.0 percent (14-for-28) to 43.8 percent (14-for-32). Tyler DeYoung (Waupun, Wis./Central Wisconsin Christian) led Wisconsin Lutheran with 12 points off the bench in the first half.
  • WLC started out the second half strong, leading 52-43 with 14:23 remaining in the contest.
  • Dominican chipped away and brought the lead down to just two at 60-58.
  • A 12-2 run by the Warriors broke the game open as they led 72-60 with 5:59 to play in the game.
  • Wisconsin Lutheran then pulled away for an 86-79 victory for its third straight win on Senior Day.

  • Jarnigo led the Warriors with 17 points and five assists. Tanner Scheive (Slinger, Wis./Slinger) added 16 and Jim Marose (Waukesha, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran) finished with 15 on 7-of-7 shooting.
  • Collin Kennedy (Holmen, Wis./Luther), Chase Nowak (Milwaukee, Wis./St. Francis), and DeYoung all finished with 12 points apiece.
  • Marose pulled down a game-high nine rebounds and DeYoung corralled eight.
  • The Stars shot 50.8 percent (30-for-59) from the field compared to 48.4 percent (31-for-64) for WLC. WLC was 18-for-20 from the free-throw line (90.0 percent) for its best performance from the charity stripe this year.
  • The Warriors controlled the points in the paint 42-20.
  • Wisconsin Lutheran out-rebounded Dominican 38-25 and dominated second-chance points 18-3 thanks to a +7 margin on the offensive glass.
  • Josh Mayberry led the Stars with a game-high 28 points and Tim Robertson finished with 24.
  • Today marked the final regular-season home game for seniors Marose, Jarnigo, Alec Breazeale (Clackamas, Ore./Clackamas), and Randy Strutz (Sturtevant, Wis./Shoreland Lutheran).
