Seven Warriors Garner NACC Postseason Honors

MILWAUKEE ( - Seven members of the Wisconsin Lutheran College football team have received postseason honors from the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference, it was announced Friday as the 2018 season awards were released by the conference office.

Senior Sasha Bornschlegl (Rochester, Minn.) was tabbed a First Team All-NACC placekicker after connecting on 75 percent (6-of-8) of his field goal attempts and a perfect 100 percent (14-of-14) of his extra point tries. His 44-yard field goal November 3 vs. Concordia Chicago tied for the third-longest made kick in school history. Bornschlegl, a Second Team All-NACC selection in 2016, was named the NACC Special Teams Player of the Week twice this season.

Seniors Chrystyan Woyak (Juneau, Wis.) and Derrick Brungraber (Carlsville, Wis.) were named Second Team All-NACC performers. Woyak led the Warriors with 42 catches for 543 yards and a team-high five touchdown catches. The wideout caught two touchdown passes September 8 vs. Lawrence Tech and recorded a season-high 126 yards and a touchdown October 6 at Eureka. Brungraber, a Second Team All-NACC selection a season ago, recorded 36 tackles, including 2.5 sacks and 7.5 tackles for loss. The interior lineman collected four tackles, 1.5 sacks, and 1.5 tackles for loss November 3 as WLC defeated Concordia Chicago 30-27.

Four Warriors were selected as NACC Honorable Mention, including Patrick Mathieson (New Port Richey, Fla.), Connor Young (Kenosha, Wis.), Brandon Morrissey (Waupun, Wis.), and Cameron Wolf (Oconomowoc, Wis.).

Mathieson completed 55.2 percent of his passes, totaling 1,622 yards, good for fourth in the NACC. The senior signal caller tossed 19 touchdowns, good for second in the conference and also rushed for two scores. The quarterback three for three-plus touchdowns on five occasions, with a season-high 288 yards and four touchdowns October 6 vs. Eureka. He finished his career second all-time in passing yards (4,657) and touchdowns (43).

Young served as the anchor for the WLC offensive line, starting all 10 games at left tackle. The Warriors tallied six rushing touchdowns and averaged 79.4 rushing yards per contest. A Second Team All-NACC selection a year ago, Morrissey had 42 tackles with 9.5 tackles for loss and 2.5 sacks, including two forced fumbles. The senior end tallied nine tackles with 3.5 tackles for loss October 20 vs. Lakeland. Wolf, an Honorable Mention pick last season, tallied 46 tackles including a team-high 12 tackles for loss for 33 yards. The junior also registered 2.5 sacks, forced a fumble, and recovered a fumble for a 40-yard return. Wolf accumulated a season-high 10 tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss, one sack, and a forced fumble October 20 vs. Lakeland.

Wisconsin Lutheran concluded its 2018 season with a 2-8 overall record and a 2-5 mark in the NACC.
