Warriors Unable To Overcome First Half Deficit At Eureka

EUREKA, Ill. (WLCSports.com) - The Wisconsin Lutheran College football team out-scored host Eureka in the second half, but couldn't overcome a 21-point halftime deficit as the host Red Devils handed the Warriors a 54-35 defeat Saturday afternoon in NACC football action at McKinzie Field. The Red Devils rushed for 365 yards and six touchdowns in the win over WLC.

  • Eureka struck early on their first two possessions, scoring two touchdowns off a pair of Le'Anthony Reasnover one-yard runs as the Red Devils led 14-0 with 6:23 left in the first quarter.
  • The Warriors responded near the end of the first quarter when Patrick Mathieson (New Port Richey, Fla.) connected with Brandon Livingston (Carson, Calif.) for a 24-yard touchdown to cap the longest drive of the game for WLC of 75 yards.
  • The Red Devils went on another 14-0 scoring run on two more Reasnover's touchdowns, including a 56-yard pass play as time expired, to take a 28-7 lead heading into the half.
  • After Eureka scored another rushing touchdown on its opening possession of the second half, Mathieson responded by finding Chrystyan Woyak (Juneau, Wis.) for a 62-yard pitch and catch to cap just a three-play scoring drive.
  • After Reasnover's fourth rushing touchdown of the contest, the Warriors scored on a one-yard plunge by Mathieson with 7:46 remianing in the third quarter.
  • The Warriors found the end zone two more times in the second half on Mathieson touchdown passes to Tyree Gamble (Huntsville, Texas) for 20 yards and Javion Morgan (Naples, Fla.) for 25 yards.
  • Reasnover scored one final rushing touchdown for the Red Devils with just over four minutes left, his sixth touchdown of the game, giving Eureka the 54-35 victory.

  • Mathieson completed 22-of-46 passing attempts for a season-high 288 yards and four touchdowns. He also rushed for a score, setting a school record for touchdowns scored in a single game.
  • Todd Lehman (Harvard, Ill.) rushed for 24 yards on just three attempts, as WLC was limited to a season-low in rushing yards.
  • Woyak caught four passes for 126 yards and a touchdown for an average of 31.5 yards per catch, while Morgan hauled in six passes for 111 yards and a score.
  • Mat Guedel (Belvidere, Ill.) and Cameron Wolf (Oconomowoc, Wis.) had seven tackles each to lead the Warriors on defense.
  • The 35 points scored are the most by the Warriors in nearly a year since they scored 41 on October 7, 2017 
  • Saturday's matchup was the first-ever meeting between WLC and NACC affiliate Eureka.

  • Reasnover rushed for 207 yards on 29 carries for the Red Devils, an average of 7.1 yards per rush. He also rushed for five touchdowns, a new NACC record, and collected two catches for 76 yards and a score.
  • Drew Barth passed for 134 yards and two touchdowns while completing 9-of-19 passing attempts.
  • Austin McCarty recorded eight tackles for the Red Devils defense.
  • The Red Devils remain the only undefeated team in the league at 5-0. 

  • Wisconsin Lutheran continues conference play on the road next Saturday when it travels to Lisle, Illinois to face Benedictine (1-4, 1-1 NACC).
