Warriors Stymied Twice By Spartans

CAROL STREAM, Ill. (WLCSports.com) - The Wisconsin Lutheran College baseball team dropped two Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference road games Saturday to the Aurora Spartans, who are receiving votes in the latest D3baseball.com Top 25 poll. The Warriors fell by scores of 10-1 and 8-4 at Lee Pfund Stadium.

  • Records: Wisconsin Lutheran (13-22, 4-14 NACC), Aurora (29-8, 16-4 NACC)

  • The Warriors recorded their first hit of the game in the third on a Matthew Schulenburg (Hampshire, Ill.) double, but the game remained scoreless through three.
  • After WLC stranded a runner at third in the fourth, the Spartans scored three runs in the fourth, including two unearned, to take a 3-0 lead.
  • A leadoff home run and an unearned run with two outs extended Aurora's lead to 5-0 after five.
  • AU used a one-out, based-clearing triple in the sixth to build its lead to 8-0.
  • Wisconsin Lutheran broke through the scoring column in the eighth when Ryan Dominick (Bartlett, Ill.) doubled to center with two outs scoring Schulenburg.
  • The Spartans scored their final two runs of the game on back-to-back run-scoring singles in the eighth for their 10th run.
  • Four different Warriors each collected one hit in the opener.

  • The Spartans had their first four batters reach and used four hits to build a 4-0 first-inning lead.
  • A second-inning RBI triple gave the hosts a 5-0 lead through two.
  • The Warriors put two runners on via walks in the third, but couldn't bring them around to score.
  • Aurora scored twice in the fifth on a two-RBI double, and another in the eighth on an RBI single for their final runs of the contest.
  • WLC didn't go away quietly though, scoring four times in its last at-bat to trim the final deficit in half. Wisconsin Lutheran capitalized on two errors and had three hits, including RBIs from Sid Lehman (Theresa, Wis.) and Schulenburg.
  • Brannigan Hart (David, Fla.) had two of WLC's five hits, while Schulenburg drove in a pair.
  • Joe Serbiak (Brookfield, Wis.) allowed one run and struck out four over 3.1 relief innings.

  • Colin Rivard went 3-for-5 with three runs scored in game one. Chris Roycroft allowed just two hits over 6.0 shutout innings to pickup the win.
  • Davis Purviamce went 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored in game two. Kyle Blunt pitched a scoreless 5.2 innings for the win.

  • The Warriors play their final NACC road games of the season tomorrow when they travel to Henry Aaron Field to take on crosstown NACC for MSOE (11-23, 8-12 NACC) for a 12:00 p.m. twinbill. Live audio and stats will be available for both games at WLCSports.com.
