Warriors Travel To Whitewater For NCAA First Round Matchup

MILWAUKEE – The Wisconsin Lutheran College women’s basketball team learned its opponent and destination today when the NCAA unveiled the 64 teams that will compete for the 2013 NCAA Division III Women’s Basketball Championship. The Warriors will play Wis.-Whitewater in a NCAA First Round matchup Friday, March 1 at Kachel Gymnasium in Whitewater, Wis. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
Wisconsin Lutheran (25-2) advanced to its third straight NCAA Tournament and fifth overall after defeating Concordia Wisconsin, 75-52, Saturday to secure the Northern Athletics Conference’s automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. The Warriors, who have won a program-record 17 straight games, became the first team in NAC history to run the table (17-0) in conference play. Senior guard Shavon Dillon (Milwaukee, Wis./Hope School) is averaging a team-high 14.3 points per game to pace the Warriors.
Wis.-Whitewater (21-6), ranked 22nd in the latest D3hoops.com Top 25 poll, received an at-large bid to the tournament after falling to Wis.-Stevens Point, 76-71, in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Tournament championship game Sunday. The Warhawks are making their sixth consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance and 11th in school history. UWW, which won the WIAC regular season championship with a 14-2 league record, is led by Cortney Kumerow’s 13.3 points per game.
Carthage (23-4) will play seventh-ranked Thomas More (27-1) in Friday’s other first round matchup at 5:30 p.m. Friday's winners will meet Saturday at 7 p.m. in Whitewater, Wis.
