MEQUON, Wis. – The Wisconsin Lutheran College baseball team dropped two Northern Athletics Conference games against Concordia Wisconsin in a doubleheader on Sunday afternoon at Kapco Park in Mequon, Wis. The Warriors dropped game one 8-3, before falling 7-2 in game two.

In the opener, the bottom of the third inning proved to be the difference as Concordia Wisconsin tallied five runs in the frame to take a 5-0 lead. Beau Burgert had the big hit of the inning as he roped a two-out, three-RBI double down the left field line.

The Warriors plated their first two runs of the game in the top of the fifth. Tyler Schoen (Marion, Wis./Marion) and Garrick Day (Elk Mound, Wis./Elk Mound) started the inning off with singles and Connor Vredeveld (Waterloo, Wis./Lakeside Lutheran) and Cody Nevils (Boca Raton, Fla./West Boca Raton) recorded RBIs in the frame to bring the score to 5-2.

CUW would score two more runs in the bottom of the sixth and both teams plated one in the seventh making the final tally 8-3 in favor of the Falcons. It was Vredeveld who doubled in Day in the top of the seventh for the Warriors, giving the freshman outfielder his second RBI of the game.

Andrew Mueller picked up the win for Concordia Wisconsin as he went the distance scattering four hits over nine innings. Mueller struck out three and gave up two earned runs. Josh Smith (Appleton, Wis./East) took the loss for WLC pitching 5 and 1/3 innings.

CUW was led by the top of its order as the number two hitter Daniel Mueller was a perfect 5-for-5 with two runs scored, while leadoff man David Enters went 3-for-6. Day was the only Warrior to record multiple hits, going 2-for-4 with two runs scored.

Game two saw Wisconsin Lutheran jump out to an early lead as it scored in the top of the second when Brett Youngbeck (Brown Deer, Wis./Brown Deer) scored to give WLC a 1-0 lead. CUW answered with two in the bottom of the third to take a 2-1 lead.

WLC then scored again in the top of the sixth inning when Schoen singled in Doug Martin (West Bend, Wis./Kettle Moraine Lutheran) to tie things up at 2-2. That score remained until the bottom of the seventh when the Falcons broke the game open with four runs, including a two-RBI single from Nick Doedens for a 6-2 lead. Concordia Wisconsin would tally one more in the eighth making the final 7-2.

Schoen led Wisconsin Lutheran in game two of the doubleheader as the junior went 3-for-4 and drove in one run. Adam Martz was the Falcons top hitter finishing 3-for-5 with two RBI.

Austin Baglow recorded the win for CUW (5-8, 3-1 NAC) pitching eight innings, giving up one earned run and striking out 10. Jaime Paumen (Glencoe, Minn./Silver-Lake) was charged with the loss despite throwing seven innings for Wisconsin Lutheran and fanning four hitters.

Wisconsin Lutheran (3-14, 1-3 NAC) will return to action Tuesday when it plays a non-league doubleheader against Beloit (6-10). First pitch at The Ballpark at Strong Stadium is set for 1 p.m.
